Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brewers Fall To RIT PKs In Liberty League First Round

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The first round of the Liberty League Men's Soccer Tournament went down to the wire, but it was visiting RIT advancing following a 4-3 decision in overtime penalty kicks. The game remained tied 1-1 at halftime and stayed that way until the second overtime finished.

In a rematch of last Saturday's regular season finale, RIT scored first again. Adam Wuest received the ball off a corner at the 17th and kicked pass the ball to Jarded Short. He then headed the ball into the left side of net for the score.

The Brewers answered seven minutes later after Austin Lukasik (Jupiter, FL) made the long-range pass to Jonathan Bow (San Francisco, CA) of the left side of the field. Bow outran the defense, settled the ball, and then slipped the shot past the Tigers' goalkeeper to tie the game.

Vassar nearly got on the board again at the 31st minute when Bow fired off two shots on goal that were deflected by goalkeeper Will Sokol. Andrew Goldsmith (Princeton, NJ) collected the rebound, but his shot sailed wide left.

After outshooting RIT 10-3 in the first half, the Tigers went on to have a 7-6 shot advantage in the second. Neither defense would crack in the second half, with Eric Wnorowski (Mantoloking, NJ) tallying three saves.

Two scoreless periods of overtime followed and penalty kicks were needed to determine who would advance to the Liberty League Quarterfinals. Eaman Geraghty (Oneonta, NY), Ryan Lane (Santa Monica, CA), and Lukasik made the first three attempts, but so did the Tigers. Wnorowski made the stop on the next RIT attempt, but the Tigers made their final one to advance.

Wnorowski finished the game with five saves, while Sokol had eight for the Tigers. Bow had a game-high five shot attempts.

RIT now plays Hobart in the semifinals on Sun. Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
