Women's Basketball Rallies for 72-63 Win Over Springfield

Five reach double-figures to lead Brewers past the Pride

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - A trey from senior Isa Peczuh with 3:17 remaining turned the tides for the Vassar College women's basketball team as they regained a lead they would not relinquish enroute to a 72-63 win over Springfield College on Saturday at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The victory moves the Brewers to 3-1 on the season, while the Pride are now 3-3 overall.

Holding a 49-43 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, Vassar saw its lead dwindle following an Alex Lee (Alexandria, VA) layup as the Pride went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 51-all with 6:43 to play. A free throw from senior forward Jackie Cenan (Laguna Beach, CA) made it a 52-51 lead, but Springfield countered as senior Alex Goslin (South Windsor, CT) - who tallied four points in the previous run - scored five of the team's next eight points to give the visitors a a 58-56 edge with 3:38 remaining on the clock. Peczuh (Willington, CT) changed the momentum of the game as she went up for a three and countered with another shot from downtown at the 2:00 minute mark for a 62-58 advantage for the Brewers.

Senior guard Lauren Rudolph (Franklin, MA) nailed a trey of her own at the other end to once again make it a one-point (62-61) lead for Vassar, but the Brewers got their seventh three of the game - this time from junior guard Ryan DeOrio (Collegeville, PA) - to open up a four-point (67-63) edge. Vassar capitalized down the stretch as Peczuh, DeOrio and senior forward Sophie Nick (Denver, CO) all connected at the free throw line to close out a five-point run for the victory.

Peczuh led the Brewers in scoring for the game with 14 points - including three key shots from beyond the arc - adding two rebounds as well. DeOrio and sophomore guard Sarah Gillooly (Stow, MA) each threw down 12 points while DeOrio also added seven boards and four assists as Gillooly chipped in with two assists, a block and two steals. Nick recorded a double-double of 11 points and a game-best 18 rebounds with a game-high two blocks, as Cenan recorded 10 points with a game-best six assists.

For Springfield, Goslin posted a game-best 17 points to go along with two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior guard Emily Jacques (Auburn, ME) added 10 points with nine boards, an assist, a block and a steal, while freshman Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, MA) notched a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with five points. Rudolph and freshman guard Rachel Vinton (Holden, MA) each posted eight points for the Pride.
