GENEVA, N.Y. – The Vassar women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to the Herons in Sunday's Liberty League Championship game. Defense held William Smith back, but a late first half goal was all that was needed for the Herons to secure their 13
th consecutive league title.
The Brewers close the year at 10-8-1, while the Herons move into the NCAA Tournament with a 16-1-1 overall record.
Goalkeeper
Fiona Walsh (Hackettstown, NJ) held the Herons scoreless for most of the first half, tallying four saves. Eventually William Smith was able to break through, scoring at the 42
nd minute. A shot by Julia Berg was deflected by the defense, but Eileen Rath collected the ball and made the shot into the bottom center of the net.
The Herons took ten shots in the second half, but Walsh shut them out in the entire 45 minutes. She made one more save for five on the day. Vassar was unable to get any shots or corner attempts and could not mount a comeback.
