Women's Soccer Falls in League Action at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Vassar women's soccer team shouldered their first league loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling at Skidmore by a 3-1 margin. The Thoroughbreds are now 6-2-2 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League action, while the Brewers move to 5-5-1 and 2-1-0 in the league.

The Thoroughbreds opened the game's scoring in the 19th minute as Yasmine Boukari crossed from the right to Emily Vinick, who shot from six yards out.

Vassar struck back to tie it at 1-all as Savannah Cutler picked up the loose ball in the box and shot in low in the 32nd minute, but Skidmore regained the advantage less than a minute later. Boukari earned the second tally for the home team, putting a shot from 19 yards in off a direct kick.

Skidmore grabbed the insurance goal in the 85th minute as Melissa Haas sent in a shot from outside the 18-yard mark off a long clear.

In goal, Ava Keller earned the win for Skidmore, recording 10 saves. Vassar's Fiona Walsh shouldered the loss with one save.

For the game, the Brewers owned a 20-12 advantage in shots, including 11-4 on goal. The two teams each had three corner kicks.

Vassar returns to action next Saturday when it hosts nationally-ranked William Smith at 3pm on Gordon Field. Skidmore also plays Saturday, traveling to Rensselaer for a 2pm game.
