TROY, N.Y. – Two second half goals gave No. 8 RPI the 2-0 win over Vassar on Wednesday evening. The loss moves the Brewers to 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers rise to 14-1-2 and 6-0-2 in the conference.
The Brewers outshot their opponents 4-2 in the first half, but only had one shot on goal when sophomore
Eamon Geraghty (Oneonta, NY) made the first shot three minutes in. Defense held the Engineers in check, but RPI surged in the second with a 6-4 shot advantage.
Freshman
Nolan Alexander (New York, NY) made a shot on goal in the opening minutes of the second, but goalkeeper Luke Brezak turned the ball away.
While Vassar was able to hold off the Engineers early in the second half, Trevor Bisson broke through the defense when he scored off the high left attempt at the 66
th minute. Then RPI scored again at 74:45 when Austin Betterly netted the Engineers' second goal.
Shots were an even 8-8 by the end of the game with RPI holding a 6-2 corner advantage.
Eric Wnorowski (Mantoloking, NJ) started in goal and made four saves. Brezak had two saves for the Engineers. Â
Vassar closes the regular season against RIT on Sat. Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
