Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Half Surge Lifts Vassar Past St. Lawrence, 60-45

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's basketball team extended its win streak to 13 after a 60-45 victory over the visiting Saints on Friday evening at the AFC. Junior Jackie Cenan (Laguna Beach, CA) was a rebound shy of a double-double and led Vassar with 17 points and nine rebounds. She scored 15 of her points in the seconds half.

Sophie Nick (Denver, CO) and Isa Peczuh (Willington, CT) were the other two double-digit scorers for the Brewers. Nick had 16, while Peczuh tallied 14 points.

Vassar (15-2, 10-1 Liberty) led throughout most of the night, but the Saints (6-11, 3-7 Liberty) kept close in the first half. After the Brewers opened on a 5-0 run to start the game, St. Lawrence went on a 6-0 spurt to take a one-point lead. A Nick layup and then a Cenan jumper put the Brewers back on top, 9-6 at 4:54.

The Saints retook the lead 14-13 early in the second quarter, but that was the last time St. Lawrence would be ahead. With the game tied 16-16, Peczuh got a 6-0 run going after a steal and a layup. Nick scored again off a Natalie Pettirossi (Weston, MA) feed, and then Peczuh caused another turnover that set up Ryan DeOrio (Collegeville, PA) for the fastbreak layup.

Vassar pushed its lead to double digits in the third when Cenan scored seven-straight points. That gave the Brewers a 39-26 lead at 4:14. In the fourth, Vassar led by as much as 19, and the Saints never cut the lead to less than 11.

Vassar had a 35-33 rebound advantage and shot 41.7 percent from the floor and held Saints to 36.0 percent shooting.

The Brewers wrap up its seven-game home stand tomorrow afternoon when Vassar hosts Clarkson. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
