RAMAPO, NJ – Three different Brewers scored in the 5-0 victory over Ramapo on Saturday afternoon, with
Emily Poehlein (Northampton, MA) and
Megan Caveny (Cicero, NY) netting two goals each. Vassar now sits at 5-1 overall while Ramapo slips to 1-5.
It was another dominant performance by the Vassar field hockey team. The Brewers did not allow a single Roadrunners shot in the first half and recorded nine of their own. Less than two minutes into the game, Poehlein kept her scoring streak going. She netted the first goal off an
Alyssa More (Wilmington, DE) assist, and then almost two minute later scored again from a Caveny pass. Poehlein has now scored in three consecutive games and it is her third two-goal game of the season.
Caveny would slip one more goal in the half after
Niki Rizzo (Andover, NJ) found her for the quick goal at the 22
nd minute.
Vassar did not let up in the second with an almost identical performance to the first. The Brewers held the 9-3 shot advantage as well as a 14-0 penalty corner advantage. A Roadrunners' green card lined
Stephanie Palma (Manhasset, NY) up for the penalty shot and the junior capitalized on it, launching the ball past the Ramapo goalkeeper. Caveny wrapped things up in the half after scoring an unassisted goal at the 51:59 mark.
Liz Rotolo (Lebanon, NJ) started in goal for Vassar, but
Madison Maguire (North Kingstown, RI) found some time and made two saves. Samantha Stolker started for Ramapo and picked up seven saves.
The Brewers finally return home on Wed. Sept. 19 to face No. 9 Montclair State at 7 p.m.
