Vassar Men's Tennis Match Notes - Liberty League Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 1, 2018) – The Brewers will travel to Cornell University to compete for a Liberty League Championship from Friday to Sunday. Up first, they will face off against host Ithaca.

Last Time Out: The Brewers dropped a close match against Hobart College at home on Saturday, losing 4-5. Adam Krueger pulled out a victory in three sets at the No. 3 position. The No. 2 doubles team of David Gandham and Jamie Anderson won over Walker Anderson and Harry Nichols of Hobart, 9-7.
 
A Look At The Brewers (6-12, 4-4 Liberty League):
  • The doubles team of Jeremy Auh and Adam Krueger leads the squad with a record of 11-7 overall and 6-2 in the conference action, going 10-6 at the No. 1 doubles position. Their six conference doubles wins is a Liberty League best.

A Look At The Bombers (6-9, 5-3 Liberty League):
  • Minos Stavrakas has the best record in conference at the No.1 Singles position, with a 7-1 record in conference play. He is fourth in the singles conference standings.
  • Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos leads the league in conference play at the No. 6 singles position, with a 4-1 record in Liberty League matches.
  • Sam McGrath leads the Liberty League at the No. 2 singles position, with a 6-2 record in league play.
  • Ithaca is fourth in the league standings coming into this weekend, with a 5-3 league record in their first year in the conference.
  • In their last matchup, the doubles team of Garrett Boleslav and Liam Spiegel lost to Vassar's Nicolas Demaria and Nick Zuczek, 6-8.
  • Sam Fried bested Nicolas Demaria at the No. 5 position in their last meeting, winning 6-3, 7-5 in 2 sets.

  • Zack Ebenfeld of RPI leads the league in singles, with a 7-0 record in conference play. JT Wynne of Skidmore follows close behind with a 6-0 record.
  • Surag Mahtani of Skidmore leads the league in singles, with an overall record of 4-0. Of players who have played more than 10 matches, Brian Niguidala and Clay Thompson of RPI lead with 20-4 and 13-3 records, respectively.
  • In doubles, two pairs have yet to be contested: Steven Kuolouris and JT Wynne of Skidmore (#1 doubles, 5-0) as well as Walker Anderson and Harry Nichols of Hobart (#2 doubles, 4-0).
  • Brian Niguidula has been dominant all year for RPI, going 13-1 overall in Liberty League play. Similarly, Skidmore's Steven Koulouris 9-1 overall in conference action.
  • Skidmore is looking for their 5th straight championship. The team has won 10 of the past 14 titles.
  • The future is bright for Liberty League tennis, as only 13 athletes will be closing out their careers this year.
