Vassar Men's Tennis Match Notes - Spring Break Matches

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 8, 2018) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team will look to get back in the win column after last weekend's 5-4 defeat at Coast Guard Academy, traveling across the nation to the Golden State to take on four teams in spring break action from California.

Last Time Out: The Brewer men's tennis team was defeated in a close non-conference match by the Coast Guard Academy with a score of 5-4. Freshman David Gandham captured a narrow victory at the number two singles spot while Adam Krueger and Jeremy Auh edged Tom Hackett and Adam Bahney for number one doubles.
 
A Look At The Brewers (5-4):
  • The Brewers are 3-3 on the road this season. With a strong week on the west coast, their win percentage can skyrocket.
  • Doubles pair Jeremy Auh and Adam Krueger have been sensational for the Brewers, collecting an 8-3 record at number one singles.
  • Freshman David Gandham continues to play well for the Brewers, leading the team with nine wins including a 5-0 conference mark.
  • Sophomore Jeremy Auh is has held his own at the number three singles spot with an overall record of 5-4 and a perfect 4-0 in the Liberty League.
  • Junior Jamie Anderson boasts 23 career wins for the Brewers, good for 7th in team history.
  • Head coach Alex Wong has posted 42 wins as the head coach of the Brewers, joining the program in the spring of the 2013-14 season. 
A Look At The Beavers (2-4):
  • The Beavers are coming off of a 6-3 win against Christopher Newport. They look to carry their momentum into their match versus Vassar.
  • Varun Shanker is manning down the number one singles with a record of 2-3 on the year.
  • Derik Nguyen and Zixiao Li are playing well together at number 2 doubles, with a record of 3-3.
A Look At The Bantams (0-0):
  • Trinity College will take on New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Bowdoin College to start its 2017-18 dual match schedule March 11, competing in only tournaments in the fall.
  • William Frigerio was 2-0 this fall, while Granville Kraynor was also 2-0 in singles play. Tanner Boyle added a 2-1 record for the Bantams in individual play. 
  • In doubles, Courtland Boyle and Rex Glickman were 3-1 together, while Chris Bilicic and Kraynor were 2-1 as well in pairs. 
A Look At The Panthers (1-2):
  • The Panthers collected their only win of the new season so far on February 18th against Colorado College. They have a chance to add two more victories prior to playing Vassar, with matches versus Christopher Newport and Case Western on March 8th and 10th respectively.
  • Len Kamemoto has been competing at the number one singles this season amassing a record of 1-2.
  • Kamemoto and Matthew Mead are competitive at the number one doubles with a record of 1-1. 
A Look At The Spartans (6-4):
  • Fresh off a win versus number 35 Hobart, the Spartans look to improve on their number 15 national ranking.
  • Senior James Fojtasek has 56 singles wins and 71 doubles wins in his career.
  • Freshman Matthew Chen is starting out his career strong with a record of 13-5 at number one and two singles. 
Up Next: After their week on the west coast, the Brewers will not play again until March 31 at home against Ithaca College for a Liberty League matchup.
