PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (March 13, 2018) – Senior
Storm Sideleau registered a career-high with seven points, but it was not enough as the Brewers fell, 15-11, to Kean on Tuesday night in their first game of the Spring Fling in Port Charlotte, FL.
Sideleau poured in five goals and added two assists for a career night against the Cougars.
Kelly Pushie added two goals for the Brewers while
Emily Hamburger added two assists.
Fiona MacLeod registered a goal and an assist for Vassar as
Tessa Waters,
Olivia O'Loughlin, and
Grace Goodwin-Boyd all tallied one score.
Neither team had a strong clearing game on the night as Vassar was 11-17 and Kean went 11-19. The Cougars won the groundball battle slightly at 20-19 while the Brewers had the advantage in shots 32-27. The two sides were also nearly equal off the draw with Vassar collecting 12 to Kean's 14. Waters led the Brewers with four draw controls on the night.
Kean scored the first goal of the game just 45 seconds into the contest. Sideleau answered with her first score of the day before the Cougars rattled off six-straight to grab a 7-1 lead. With just about two minutes before the end of the half, Sideleau got on the board for her second of the day and 100
th of her career, becoming the 10
th Brewer to ever reach 100 career goals. After the senior's goal, MacLeod cut the deficit to just four before end of the first.
Sideleau once again sparked the Brewer offense in the second half as they went toe-to-toe with the Cougars over the final 30 minutes. Each side put home eight goals in the second half, Vassar was led by Sideleau's three goals, while Pushie added two, and Waters and Goodwin-Boyd both scored once. But with their early deficit, it was too much for the Brewers to mount a comeback.
Vassar plays once more in Florida, taking on Westfield State on Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
