NEW YORK, NY (February 25, 2018) – After a strong start to the weekend, sweeping Clark University 9-0 at home yesterday, the Vassar College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to No. 27 NYU on the road in New York in non-conference play.
 
The Brewers (5-3, 3-1 Liberty League) got off to a rocky start as newly paired No.2 doubles partners David Gandham and Jamie Anderson took a tough 8-1 loss against the Violets' Michael Li and Joshua Piato. However, No. 1 doubles pair Adam Krueger and Jeremy Auh staged a comeback, defeating NYU's Umberto Setter and Aaron Mackie 8-5 to tie up the day, while also bringing their doubles record to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in dual matches, solidifying their team lead in doubles record this season.
 
In the tie-breaking match, teammates Nicolas Demaria and Nick Zuczek put up a strong fight against Rahul Das and Vishal Walia to defend their erstwhile 4-0 doubles record, before ultimately falling just 9-8 to the Violets.
 
In singles play, NYU controlled the afternoon, winning all six matches. No. 1 Adam Krueger fell 6-1, 6-1 to 2017 ITA Championship finalist Umberto Setter in the first match, followed by a 6-0, 6-2 loss for No. 3 Jeremy Auh and a 6-1, 6-1 loss for No. 5 Nicolas Demaria. Slightly stronger showings from No. 6 Nick Lee and No. 4 Jamie Anderson were still not enough to clinch wins for either, going 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-3 respectively. At No.2, David Gandham finished the day with the closest score for the Brewers in singles, going 6-4, 6-4 and falling to Rahul Das.
 
Up next, Vassar heads to New London, CT, to take on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Saturday, March 3 in non-conference play.
