POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Max White (Green Bay, WI) broke his own Kresge Pool record in the 200 yard backstroke to lead the Vassar College men's swimming & diving team to a 170-109 victory over Skidmore on Saturday afternoon. The 1:58.32 clocking, nearly two seconds faster than the mark he set just two weeks ago, was one of three event wins on the day for White. Overall, Vassar finished first in 11 different events.
His other two victories came little more than 10 minutes apart. After winning the 200 freestyle in 1:52.12, White was right back in the pool for the next event—the 100 backstroke, with only the women's 100 backstroke to rest. That didn't seem to faze White, as he also took first in that event in a time of 54.71 seconds. In fact, White swam in three of the first four events on the program. He was the leadoff swimmer on the Brewers' victorious 200 medley relay squad.
Nikolas Pham (Lancaster, PA),
Harrison Taylor (Wyandanch, NY) and
Matthew Imiolek (St. Louis, MO) joined White to post a winning time of 1:39.87 in the 200 medley relay. Taylor also took first in the 100 butterfly (55.06), edging out teammate
Jake Mier (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) (55.16). In addition, Imiolek won the 50 freestyle in 22.55 seconds and Pham placed second in both breaststroke events. He posted a time of 1:00.93 in the 100 breaststroke and had a 2:19.83 clocking in the 200 breaststroke.
Mier earned a pair of victories to go along with his second-place finish in the 100 butterfly. He registered a time of 1:58.24 in the 200 butterfly and won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.83.
In the distance events,
Jordan Kalina (Palatine, IL) and
Ethan Skuches (Milford, CT) traded 1-2 finishes. It was Kalina (10:22.45) over Skuches (10:29.86) in the 1000 freestyle, while Skuches was first (5:06.60) and Kalina took second (5:07.61) in the 500 freestyle.
Brandon Li (Whippany, NJ) (50.64) and
Will Riley (Newton, MA) (51.69), meanwhile, went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle. Li added a second-place showing in the 50 freestyle (23.17). That duo later joined with Taylor and
Nikolas Pham (Lancaster, PA) to close the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.50.
The Brewers are back in action next Saturday, when RPI visits Kresge Pool at 1 p.m. It marks the third time over the first four meets that Vassar will be competing at home.
