NEW PALTZ, N.Y. –
On Friday night, the Vassar College men's swimming & diving team did something it hadn't done in five years—defeat New Paltz in a dual meet.  The Brewers' nine event victories and five 1-2 finishes lifted them to a 143-117 triumph over the Hawks at Elting Pool.  Vassar's last win over New Paltz was a 144-135 victory on Nov. 23, 2013.

Jake Mier (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) took first in all four of his events to pace the Brewers.  After joining with Max White (Green Bay, WI), Nikolas Pham (Lancaster, PA) and Matthew Imiolek (St. Louis, MO) to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:42.30, Mier earned three individual victories in three different disciplines.  He finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:00.38), 200 breaststroke (2:21.81) and 200 individual medley (2:05.94).

White swam in both relays, which meant he was only eligible for two individual events.  He won them both, placing first in the 200 freestyle (1:46.77) and 500 freestyle (4:48.93).  Ethan Skuches (Milford, CT), meanwhile, posted a 2:06.85 clocking for the victory in the 200 backstroke.  He also took third in the 1650 freestyle (17:45.11).

The Brewers earned 1-2 showings in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.  In the 100 breaststroke, Pham's time was 1:01.65, while Will Riley (Newton, MA) registered a 1:04.20 clocking.  Meanwhile, in the 100 butterfly, Harrison Taylor (Wyandanch, NY) and Imiolek were separated by just .15 seconds, with Taylor placing first in 55.82 seconds and Imiolek touching second in 55.97 seconds.  Taylor also earned a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:15.90), and Imiolek picked up another third place in the 50 freestyle (23.32).

Jordan Kalina (Palatine, IL) had a pair of second-place showings in the distance events, posting a time of 5:07.11 in the 500 freestyle and swimming the 1650 freestyle in 17:15.82.  Riley earned another second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.  His time in the event was 2:24.85.  Duncan Webber (New York, NY), meanwhile, grabbed second in the 100 backstroke (58.93) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:10.17).  Pham placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:09.88), and Li contributed third-place points in both the 100 freestyle (50.91) and 200 freestyle (1:54.53).

After a week off, Vassar returns to action at the RIT Invitational on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
