Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brewers Roll Past Union Behind Nick's 15 Points

SCHENECTADY, NY (January 19, 2018) – The Vassar women's basketball team put together a complete effort in their 61-46 win at Union on Friday night.

The Brewers opened the game on a 7-0 run and never looked back as they led wire to wire against the Dutchwomen. Sophie Nick led the Vassar offense with 15 points while adding eight rebounds and two steals. Both Isa Peczuh and Ariella Rosenthal added 10 points with the senior also hauling in seven rebounds.

The Vassar defense played air tight in the first 20 minutes, holding Union to just 10 points on 3-22 (13.6%) shooting. For the game, the Dutchwomen shot just 31.4% from the field while the Brewers connected on 37.3% of their shots.

At the end of the first quarter, the Brewers held a 17-3 lead and only added to that in the next frame. Nicole Teta's three-pointer made it 25-3 in favor of the Brewers with 5:09 to play before the half. That capped an 18-0 run by Vassar over a span of nearly 10 minutes.

The Dutchwomen fought back in the second half, outscoring Vassar 36-34 over the final 20 minutes. In the third period, the Brewers matched Union shot for shot in the third period to carry a 19-point advantage into the fourth.

Union put together their best 10 minutes of basketball as they blitzed the Brewers 20-16 in the final stanza. But Vassar's strong play over the first 30 minutes of game allowed them to walk away with the 15-point victory.

The Brewers are back tomorrow afternoon when they visit Bard at 2:00 p.m.
