Vassar Field Hockey Match Notes – Brockport

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 7, 2017) – The Vassar College field hockey team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season, dropping a 1-0 decision to Kean University Wednesday evening. The Brewers will now travel north to battle The University at Brockport in non-conference action Saturday morning at 10 a.m., preceding Brockport's home football game on campus.

Last Time Out: The Brewers fell 1-0 to Kean University Wednesday evening in the first road game of the year for Vassar. VC was held without a shot during the opening half, but turned things around in the second with five attempts on goal. Juniors Megan Caveny and Alyssa More each had two shots for VC, while Liz Rotolo made six saves in net for the Brewers.
 
A Look At The Brewers (2-1):
 
  • Vassar's offense is still looking to get going this year, as the Brewers have scored just four goals through three games.
  • The defense has been solid, allowing just two goals through its three games, which ranks second in the Liberty League.
  • Junior Megan Caveny is currently seventh in the Liberty League in shots per game, taking 4.33 a contest.
  • Sophomore Cristina Lopez is second in the conference in assists per game, dishing out 0.67 helpers per contest for the Brewers.
  • With VC's loss on Wednesday evening, just the University of Rochester (2-0) and Union College (1-0) are undefeated within the League.
  • The Brewers have gotten some strong goalkeeping out of sophomore Liz Rotolo, who has a 0.36 GAA so far this year, which is second-best in the conference.
  • Junior Monica Feeley chalked up a defensive save on Wednesday evening, which was the first defensive stop of her career.
  • Head coach Michael Warari has employed the same starting lineup all three games this season.
 
A Look at the Golden Eagles (1-1):
 
  • Brockport started its season with a 1-0 win over Keuka College on Friday, falling to St. John Fisher 6-0 Tuesday evening.
  • In the 1-0 victory, Golden Eagle sophomore Julia Weyant scored on a penalty stroke shoot out to claim the win after 110 minutes of scoreless field hockey.
  • Keeper Sarah Beam made seven saves in the contest for the Golden Eagles, who outshot Keuka 20-9 on the game.
  • Brockport allowed four first half goals against St. John Fisher on Tuesday afternoon, but on the season have been outshot in the opening period 13-12.
  • Beam has played all 185 minutes in net for the Golden Eagles, making 15 saves on the season in addition to her one shutout.
  • Margo Tremaine has taken a team-best seven shots this year, while Meaghan Lurz has six and five on goal.
  • Defender Grace Beardsley has started and played every minute on the back line for Brockport, making one defensive save.
  • Head coach Krista Archambeau is in her first season as the head coach at Brockport, serving as an assistant at Division II Seton Hill University for the last two years.
 
Against Brockport All-Time: Vassar holds a 3-0-1 record against Brockport all-time, with the two teams tying the first contest 1-1. Since then, Vassar has earned three shutout wins over the last three years, including last year's 9-0 at home. In that game, Gracie Tavakkol posted two goals and an assist, while Emma Bracken added four assists.
