Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Topped By Kean, 1-0

UNION, NJ (September 6, 2017) -- An early first half goal was all that host Kean University would need Wednesday evening, as the Vassar College field hockey team fell to KU 1-0 in non-conference action from Kean Alumni Stadium on a rainy, wet night in Union, NJ.

Kean (3-0) would hold the momentum early on, taking the game's first three shots over the first three minutes of the contest. Vassar sophomore Liz Rotolo was up to the task, turning away a pair of attempts while the other was deflected away.

In the 17th minute, the Cougars jumped out on top thanks to a Teresa Carr goal, as she dribbled in and fired a shot past Rotolo for the game-winner. VC got its first penalty corner at 21:01 of the game, but wouldn't be able to get a shot off, finishing the first half without an attempt on goal.

Right before the half it appeared that the Cougars had doubled their lead, but before KU could shovel the ball over the line, a foul was whistled after a save by Rotolo. After the break, VC started to tilt the field towards the KU defensive end, but couldn't beat Bailee Mullen on any of the team's five second-half shots.

Vassar had a few attempts, their best on a penalty corner in the 48th minute, but an Alyssa More shot was saved. Kean would have its best chance of the second half in the 64th minute, as the ball sat at the goal link, but junior Monica Feeley swept the attempt away for a defensive save. The Brewers wouldn't get another shot off, falling for the first time this season.

The Brewers were topped on the stat column 11-5, while Kean earned a slight 6-4 edge in penalty corners. Rotolo finished with six stops for the Brewers, as VC picked up 44 fours to just 36 from the home team.

Vassar is back in action on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., taking on The College at Brockport in more non-conference play.
