Vassar Women's Soccer Match Notes - Union

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 28, 2017) – The Vassar women's soccer team shut out Bard College on Wednesday, continuing their seven-game undefeated streak. The win brings the Brewers to third in the league. This Saturday, they will look to improve their record when they take on Union College at home.

A Look At The Brewers (5-2-2, 1-0-1 Liberty League)
  • The Brewers earned their first shutout in Liberty League play on Wednesday after battling Bard to a 1-0 win.
  • Freshmen Ashley Ferry looks dominant in her rookie year, earning six goals and six assists for a total of 18 points this season which is good for second in the league.
  • Ferry currently ranks first in the conference in total assists and sits 19th nationally in the category.
  • She also ranks first in the league in assists per game and 24th nationally in the category.
  • Behind her is sophomore Savanah Cutler and junior Audrey Pillsbury with four goals apiece.
  • Senior Amanda MacFarland scored her second game-winning goal of the season and fifth career game-winning goal. She currently is four on the team in total points with seven
  • Ten Brewers have collectively helped to accumulate the 24 total goals scored this season
  • Freshmen Fiona Walsh continues to look excellent in goal earning her third shut out of the season against Bard.
  • Walsh currently ranks third in the league in saves per game (5.56) and save percentage (0.862).
A Look At The Dutchwomen (4-2-1, 0-1 Liberty League)
  • After losing a challenging league opener against St. Lawrence, the Dutchwomen rebounded earlier this week against Westfield State, earning a narrow 1-0 victory.
  • Linsey Giles currently leads the Union front line, scoring four goals and helping another for a total of nine points
  • Katie Monohan trails close behind her in total shots (16), although only finding the net once.
  • The Dutchwomen have struggled offensively thus far in the season, scoring a league low eight goals.
  • However their backline has compensated, shutting out four teams, good for first in the league
  • Kelsey Hartsoe has been exceptional in goal, leading the league in total saves (58) and saves per game (8.29)
  • The Dutchwomen have had their fair share of rough plays, ranking first in the league in red cards and 3rd in yellow cards and total fouls.
 
Against Union All-Time: The Brewers are 6-23-2 all time against the Dutchmen. The last four years have seen the teams split wins and losses: both coming away with records of 2-2.
