Last Time Out: The Brewers picked up their first Liberty League win this past Saturday by a score of 2-1 over the Tigers of RIT. Vassar got off to a quick start as Hayden Van Brewer buried a penalty kick less than 13 minutes into the game. About 13 minutes later Jose Novas added to the lead off assists from fellow seniors Reid Smith and Tanner Sands. The Tigers scored their lone goal in the 81st minute, but the Vassar defense held strong for the final nine to earn a 2-1 victory.

A Look At The Brewers (4-3-1, 1-0 Liberty League)
  • Vassar has had a very selfless and distributive offense as they have as many assists, 14, as they do goals.
  • The Brewers remain unbeaten on Gordon Field, sporting a 2-0-1 record on their home turf.
  • Matt Marcelino and Will Marment continue to battle over the starting goalie position, but it was the latter getting the start and the victory in Vassar's last contest.
  • Vassar's squad has been riddled with injuries this year and has had to start 17 different players thus far, with just five players having started all eight games.
  • The Brewers' offensive production has been very senior and sophomore heavy as 37 of the teams 42 points have been recorded by those two classes.
  • Sophomore Mattie Mrlik leads the team in goals (4), shots (26), and shots on goal (13) and is showing no signs of a sophomore slump following his terrific freshman campaign.
  • Senior Hayden Van Brewer continues to build his offensive production. After recording just one assist between his freshman and sophomore years, he has amassed a total of four goals and 13 assists in his past 28 games. All four of his goals have come this season.
  • Jose Novas and Kevin Baliat have been great compliments to the production of Mrlik and Van Brewer up front as the two forwards are tied for the team lead with three assists.
  • Junior Tyler Gilmore, while still recording over two shots per game, has seen his offensive production dip a little compared to last season. Look for him to continue to be a threat in the box and bury a header goal sooner rather than later.

A Look At The Raptors (3-4, 0-1 Liberty League)
  • The Raptors have been on the unfortunate side of two overtime losses so far this season.
  • The one common opponent of Vassar and Bard this season, Mount Saint Mary, defeated the Raptors 4-0 but lost to Vassar 3-1.
  • Bard comes into this midweek contest on a three-game losing streak, but lost each contest by just one goal.
  • Nick Shenberger will undoubtedly be the man to watch for the Raptors as the senior leads the team with five goals on the season and has played in just four games.
  • John Flynn will be another player to watch upfront for the Raptors. He is second on the team in points (6) and goals (2), and leads the team in assists (2).
  • Freshman Hunter Davenport and Denis O'Shea lead the Raptor backline in minutes with 523 and 478 respectively.

Against Bard All-Time: The Brewers are 18-0 all time against the Raptors. Vassar has shutout Bard in 16 of the 18 wins and never allowed more than one goal in a game.

Up Next: Vassar will continue Liberty League play this weekend as they head to Schenectady, New York to take on Union College on Saturday, September 30th at 2:00 p.m.
