Last Time Out: After a disappointing first half including dropping two goals early on to SUNY New Paltz, the Brewers came out strong in the second period. Vassar dominated possession, taking twelve shots in the half alone and forcing the New Paltz keeper into action. Despite the Hawks' defensive efforts, less than 15 minutes into the second half, sophomore Mattie Mrilk notched two goals to tie up the game. Twenty minutes later, a shot by sophomore
Henrik Olsson brought the score to 3-2 for the Brewers where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
A Look At The Brewers (3-2)
- Following a tough week with two losses, the Brewers are finally back in the winning seat.
- Sophomore Mattie Mrlik continues to show his offensive prowess, leading the team in nearly every offensive category including goals (4), shots (19), and total points (9).
- Mrilk currently ranks second in the league in both goals and shots taken.
- Senior Hayden Van Brewer remains a threat up top, commanding the offense from the midfield while still finding opportunities to score.
- Van Brewer currently ranks tied for 11th nationally in game winning goals (2).
- After scoring his second career game winning goal, sophomore defender Henrik
- Olsson demonstrates his duality as a player and will continue to be an integral offensive and defensive option for the Brewers.
- Playing over 400 minutes this season, juniors Tim Collins and Tyler Gilmore remain steadfast in the backline, anchoring the Brewer defense.
- The Brewers are currently 1st in the conference for corner kicks per game (5.80).
A Look At The Red Dragons (4-0)
- The undefeated dragons have been relentless offensively, averaging 2.75 goals per game while moving up nine positions in the national rankings.
- Leading the attack are sophomore Hernandez and freshman Ventura, each notching three goals.
- Ventura is also ranked 1st in the conference and 7th nationally in game winning goals.
- Junior defender Martinez looks to be integral on both sides of the ball, assisting on three goals this season.
- Maintaining three shutouts, junior Nicholas Giordano looks strong between the pipes, maintaining a save percentage of just under 0.96.
- Nationally, Giordano ranks 2nd in shutouts, 11th in save percentage, 13th in shutout percetage and 57th in total saves.
- The Red Dragons currently rank 1st in goals allowed with just one goal against.
- Although Oneonta has outperformed their opponents in every offensive category, it has come at a price, earning more fouls and the only red card in the SUNYAC thus far in the season.
Against Oneonta All-Time: The Brewers are 0-3-2 against the Red Dragons all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 2012. Last season, Vassar fell 4-2 at Oneonta on September 17.
