Brewer Men’s Lacrosse Topped By No. 4 RIT Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY (April 22, 2017) – No. 4 Rochester Institute of Technology scored nine first quarter goals, using that momentum to pull away in a 21-8 victory over the Vassar College men's lacrosse team in action on Senior Day for the Tigers.

The Tigers (12-2, 5-1 Liberty League) scored the first seven goals of the game before senior Liam Moriarty tallied unassisted with 3:40 to play in the opening stanza to make the game 7-1. Moriarty tallied again for his 14th of the season at 11:10 of the second quarter, while he completed the hat trick with 3:07 to play in the first half. Freshman Michael Mullen would make the game 15-4 just before half with his first of the game and 17th of the season, getting help from Chris Billups.

After the break, Billups tallied on an assist from sophomore Dekker Stebel followed by a Sam Houston-Read goal to make the score 15-6. VC won the third quarter 3-1, as Billups scored again at 1:20 of the third quarter, with help from Brandon DeStasio to keep the deficit in single digits. The Tigers would pull away though in the fourth, holding Vassar to just one score in earning the Liberty League victory.

The Brewers were outshot 55-37 on the day, while Moriarty and Houston-Read led the way in that category with seven apiece. Mullen finished with a goal and an assist on six shots, while Stebel has a team-best two helpers. Face-off man Matthew Lowery had a strong day, winning 15 of his 23 faceoffs while picking up 10 ground balls, and senior long stick middie Brandon Klein added four ground balls. Senior pole Steven Mages also caused four turnovers for VC.

Sophomore keeper Matthew Boyd would make 10 saves in net for the Brewers, while Erik Mikelinich came on in relief to stop four shots for Vassar. Eric Prezioso added three ground balls, while freshman TK Murphy added two ground balls.

Attacker Ryan Lee led the charge with three goals and four assists, adding six ground balls, while Chad Levick posted five points on two goals and three assists. Brendan MacDonald also posted three goals on the day for the Tigers, who outshot the Brewers 22-5 in the opening quarter.

Vassar will return to the field on Wednesday afternoon on the road, taking on Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY for a Liberty League match at 7 p.m. in a night contest.
