Vassar Men's Tennis Match Notes - St. Lawrence

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 20, 2017) – The Vassar Men's Tennis team will celebrate Senior Day this Sunday when the Brewers take on St. Lawrence in their final home match of the season.  Vassar comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record in league play, holding on to the fourth seed with a half game lead over St. Lawrence.  A win this weekend would clinch a playoff spot for the Brewers.

Last Time Out: The Brewers fell short in a tough matchup against RPI, losing by a score of 6-3.  The loss was Vassar's first on its home court this season.  Senior Nick Litsky led the Brewers with a decisive 6-0, 6-4 victory in No. 1 singles and also an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles with Nick Zuczek.
 
A Look At The Brewers:
  • Vassar will honor its three seniors, Nick Litsky, Alexander Luckmann, and Juan Felipe Laso this Sunday. 
  • With a 4-1 record on the Josselyn Courts, the Brewers have been tough to beat on their home turf.
  • Vassar's singles team continues to be the stronger unit of the two with a .565 win percentage compared to a .426 from the doubles side.
  • Freshman Jeremy Auh picked up the only other victory against RPI with a hard fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.  He now holds a 6-8 record at that spot for the year.
  • Nick Litsky now holds a 13-5 record at No. 1 singles on the year, and is 8-2 in his last 10 matches.
  • The pairing of the Nick's, Litsky and Zuczek, is now 5-2 on the season at the No. 3 doubles position.
  • Zuczek has been a doubles specialist for Vassar with a team high 7 wins and only 3 losses.
 
A Look At The Saints:
  • St. Lawrence currently sits in fifth place in the Liberty League and will be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend if they are defeated.
  • The Saints have yet to win a match on the road this season, sitting currently at 0-4 away from home. 
  • The past weekend was one of highs and lows for the Saints as they started by sweeping Bard 9-0 and then proceeded to get swept by Skidmore 9-0.
  • The most consistent singles spot for St. Lawrence has been at No. 6 where Elliot Solandt, Alec Roslin, and Spencer Whitmire are a combined 6-5.
  • Alec Roslin and Eric Tecce are currently on a four game win streak as a doubles pair.
  • Marco Amendola has also been solid for the Saints in singles play with 5 wins at the No. 4 spot.
