Vassar Women head to USA Rugby National Fall Championship Final 4
The Thanksgiving dinner having been and gone there is now just 1 week before the Vassar Women take the long bus ride south to the campus of Furman University in Greenville, SC. There, on Saturday December 2nd at 9:00 am, a semifinal match-up against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy is scheduled. Last year in the third/fourth playoff game Vassar edged the Bears 15-10. On the other side of the draw Winona State take on the University of Cincinnati at 11:00 am. The winners will playoff in the Championship game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
This is the third year in a row that the Vassar women have earned a Final 4 spot and the fourth time in 5 years. They last two meetings with the Coast Guard Academy have seen Vassar prevail (November 2015 37-0 and December 2016 15-10). En route to this year's championship Coast Guard defeated local rivals Marist College 22-0.
The Vassar Women will depart Poughkeepsie on Thursday morning and spend the entire day on the bus travelling to Greenville. Friday the squad has to check-in with USA Rugby and they will have a practice session. The journey is quite a slog so having Friday to rest and shake off the travel is important.
