Vassar Men's Basketball Season Preview

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 15, 2017) – The Vassar men's basketball team begins their 2017-18 campaign on Saturday, November 18 at the Rhodes College Tip Off Tournament in Memphis, TN. Their first game pits them against the Lynx of Rhodes College and on Sunday will face either Johns Hopkins or LeTourneau depending upon the results of the matchups.

Head Coach B.J. Dunne is back behind the bench for his fifth season and has a new staff of assistants beside him this season. Matthew Droney and Mike Rejniak will both add valuable basketball knowledge to help the team this season.

The Brewers are coming off a season in which they went 6-19 overall and posted a 2-14 conference record in the Liberty League. They bring back their top four leading scorers from a season ago, including three players who averaged double digits. Alex Seff led the offense with 15.8 points per game in 2016-17 and started 24 games. Jesse Browne played in all 25 games for Vassar averaging 13.5 points per game. Mason Dyslin saw the court in 24 games while earning 22 starts and averaging 10.6 points. And Owen Murray appeared in 16 games while averaging 5.3 points.

As a team, they averaged 67.7 points per game on .428 shooting from the floor. Behind the arc they shot the ball at a .318 clip with 7.1 makes per game.

Vassar added four talented freshmen to the roster this season with two guards, a forward, and a center joining the squad. Zach Bromfeld joins the fold from Woodmore, NY and will instantly add an inside presence with his 6-7 frame. Hugh Durham hails from Savannah, GA and can add instant offense with his three-point shooting prowess. Lance Tebay is a talented and athletic forward from Virginia Beach, VA that can impact the game on both sides of the floor. B.J. White is a guard with quick hands and great vision from Martin, TN. All four newcomers will look to see time on the court this season and add valuable options off the bench for Coach Dunne.

After the tournament in Tennessee, Vassar will play local rival SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, November 21 in New Paltz. The Brewers home opener will be against Williams College the following week on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the AFC.

The Brewers missed the conference tournament last season, but are looking to get back there this year. Six teams will qualify for the Liberty League Tournament this season, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The opening round kicks off on February 20 with the championship game set to be played on February 25.
