POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 25, 2017) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team showed its depth once again on Wednesday, as the Brewers moved to 2-0 on the season in dual meets with a 116-49 victory over Bard College in action from Kresge Pool.
The Brewers, who were swimming in their second meet in five days, still showed improvement up and down the lineup. VC started the evening with a win in the 200 medley relay, going 1-2 in the event as Vassar's "A" relay of
Sarah Boese,
Hayley Schultz,
Brynn Lautenbacher and
Shannon Schrope posted a 1:50.63 for the 11 points. The "B" relay of
Madison Carroll,
Emily McDaniels,
Abby Kirsch and
Margaret Reisert was second with a 2:02.99.
In the 1000 freestyle event, junior
Kael Ragnini continued her success in the event over recent years, earning the victory with an 11:26.63. Senior
Cali Corbett had a controlled solid swim as well to take second in the 1000 free, posting a time of 12:13.24.
In the 200 freestyle,
Brynn Lautenbacher picked up her first of two individual wins Wednesday, swimming a 2:03.31 to just nip teammate
Angharad Healey at the finish. Healey was second with a time of 2:03.81. Schultz won the 50 free for the second time this season, posting a 26.23, as Vassar earned the top three spots in the event. Freshman
Ellie Kennedy-Wood chalked up a 26.90, while junior
Meg Harrington was third in 27.65.
Reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week
Rhea Randhawa was in the pool for the first time on Wednesday in the 200 IM, and won it for the second time in as many meets with a 2:17.61. McDaniels was second with a 2:29.51, and Kirsch took third in 2:55.65.
In the 100 fly, Lautenbacher earned her second victory of the day with a season-best 1:00.44, which ranked as the top swim of the meet by CollegeSwimming.com with 547.00 quality points. Kennedy-Wood was second with a 1:01.29, a season-best for her as well, while Boese also chalked up a season-best time in the event with a 1:07.10, a 2.8 percent improvement on her previous time.
In the 100 freestyle, Schrope tallied the win after touching the wall in 58.77, while Corbett took second in 1:02.19. The 100 backstroke saw Healey pick up the win in 1:06.05, and Randhawa swam the fastest time in the 500 free with a 5:30.87. Normally a sprint freestyler, Harrington stretched herself out and swam a 6:05.10 in the 500 free as well.
In the 100 breaststroke Schultz touched the wall first with a 1:09.10, a season best time for her, while Schrope also added a time of 1:11.41 and Kirsch booked a 1:22.77. Senior
Katie Nordstrom picked up her first career victory on the boards, winning the 1-meter diving event with a career-best 97.27 points.
VC is back in action November 4 at Skidmore College for its first road meet of the season in Saratoga Springs, NY.
