Vassar Women's Volleyball Match Notes – New Paltz

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 23, 2017) – The Vassar Women's Volleyball hosts the New Paltz Hawks this Wednesday, October 25th at 7pm in Kenyon Hall.

Last Time Out: The Brewers are coming off a tough weekend, losing two consecutive conference matches to Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University. The Brewers finish third in the conference regular season standings.
 
A Look at The Brewers (20-5, 5-2 LL): 
  • VC is ranked 3rd in the Liberty League and have qualified for playoffs.
  • The Brewers lead their conference with a team hitting percentage of .224, averaging 12.59 kills/set.  
  • VC leads their conference in service aces, with Annie MacMillan and Bria Corham ranking in the top ten servers in the conference.
  • Junior Devan Gallagher has earned 411 kills this season with an average 4.72 kills/set, ranking 1st in the Liberty League. McLeod follows behind her with a total 258 kills and an average 3.53 kills/set. 
  • Annie MacMillan has dished out 935 assists this season, averaging 10.63 assists/set and earning the number-one ranking in the league. She continues to be dominant from the baseline and ranks second in the league in service aces (.64/set, 56 total).
  • Middle blockers Jenny Kerbs and Colette Cambey have combined for 107 total blocks this season, ranking 7th and 8th in the Liberty League.
  • Vassar's defense remains strong. As a team, the Brewers have dug 1476 balls this season. Freshman libero, Anna Zucchero leads the team with an average 3.74 digs/set, followed by Devan Gallagher with an average 3.47 digs/set.
  • A Look at the Hawks (16-10, 6-3 SUNYAC) 
  • The Hawks just came out 2-1 last weekend, playing three competitive conference matches. They most recently lost to SUNY Fredonia 1-3.
  • As a team this season, the Hawks have totaled 1138 kills with a .160 hitting percentage.
  • Junior Cimillo leads the team with an average 3.37 kills/set followed by Sophomore Maddie Van Pelt (2.45 kills/set).
  • Senior Zwickl leads the team in assists with an average 9.57 assists/set.
  • As a team, the Hawks average 1.85 service aces her set with Cimillo (.35 ace/set) and Zwickl (.31 ace/set) leading the team.
  • Defensively, Middle blocker Neville leads the team in total rejections with 65 blocks on the season (.72 blocks/set).  Herasme follows behind her with 48 total blocks (.55 blocks/set).
  • As a team, the Hawks are also defensively aggressive, averaging 15.46 digs/set. Senior libero Veronica Matedero leads the team with 419 total digs, averaging 4.32 digs/set.
 
Against the Hawks All-TIme: Facing New Paltz, the Brewers are 13-21 all-time. In their last meeting, Vassar won the head-to-head with a straight set victory at New Paltz.
