Women’s Swimming Starts Season With Big Win Over Brandeis

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 21, 2017) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team got huge contributions from its strong and talented freshmen class, starting the 2017-18 season with a resounding 169.5-110.5 victory over Brandeis University in action from Kresge Pool Saturday afternoon.

The Brewers started strong with great performance in the 200 yard medley relay, as freshmen Rhea Randhawa, Ellie Kennedy-wood and Brynn Lautenbacher teamed with junior Hayley Schultz to swim a 1:52.57 for the win. VC's "B" relay of Sarah Boese, Shannon Schrope, Kael Ragnini and Meg Harrington also picked up a third-place finish with a time of 1:59.89.

Boese also finished third for VC, finishing strong with a 1:07.54 keeping VC in the lead 44-27.

The wins continued to come for the Brewers thanks to Schultz, who helped VC post a 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke with Shannon Schrope. Schultz earned the win with a 1:09.34, followed by Schrope in second place with a time of 1:11.41, just out-touching Emily McGovern of Brandeis for the runner-up spot.
