POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 2, 2017) – The Vassar College field hockey team is coming home to Weinberg Field looking to regain their swagger after dropping their last two and three of their last four games. This matchup with William Smith College will be the third Liberty League contest for the Brewers, who look to remain unbeaten on their home turf.

Last Time Out: Vassar was defeated 2-0 by the Yellowjackets of Rochester. Rochester got on the board quickly as Claire Dickerson found the back of the net in the fifth minute of the contest. Just six minutes into the second half Maya Haigis doubled the led for the Yellowjackets on her first goal of the season. The Brewers had a few chances throughout the game but were never able to bury any of their four shots or take advantage of their five penalty corners.
A Look At The Brewers (6-4, 1-1 Liberty League):
- Vassar's is currently on their first multi-game losing streak since 2015.
- In regular season competition, the Brewers are 12-0 in their last 12 and have won 32 of their last 33 contests on Weinberg Field.
- The Brewers are outscoring their opponents by an average of 2.30 goals per game.
- Vassar's shot on goal percentage (69.3%) has been steadily improving over the last few seasons as the Brewers haven't topped 65% since 2006.
- Vassar currently sits tied in third place with four other teams in the Liberty League standings including this week's opponent, William Smith.
- Junior Forward Megan Caveny leads the Brewers and is second in the Liberty League in goals with 11.
- Junior Molly Youse (688) and Freshman Ally Aquilina-Piscitello (610) are the only two Brewers with over 600 minutes played this season.
- Vassar's Junior class has been the backbone of the Brewer's offensive production as they have been responsible for 21 of the teams 35 goals.
- Senior Storm Sideleau has had all of her offensive production, three goals and two assists, come in the six games that she has started.
A Look at the Herons (8-2, 1-1 Liberty League):
- William Smith is the only offense scoring at a greater rate than Vassar as they average 4.20 goals per game compared to the Brewers 3.50.
- The Herons offense is led by Senior Hannah Wood who is the only player in the league with more goals (14) and points (32) than Vassar's Megan Caveny.
- Accompanying Wood up front is Fallon Adair who's nine assists are five more than the next highest total of anyone in the league. The combination of Adair and Wood will be something to look out for on Saturday.
- William Smith is balanced in terms of goals and saves by period as they have 21 and 18 respectively in each half.
- The Herons have used the same starting lineup in all 10 of their games displaying an incredible amount of consistency and durability. These starters have also accounted for 39 of the teams 42 goals and 27 of their 28 assists.
- The one spot where William Smith has shown some inconsistency has been in between the pipes where Emily King and Alexandra DeVito have split action in multiple games.
Against William Smith All-Time: Vassar is 2-16 all-time against William Smith. However, Vassar and William Smith have split the last four contests, and both of Vassar's wins have come at Weinberg Field. In 2016, William Smith narrowly defended their home turf in a 3-2 win over the Brewers.
