Vassar Women's Soccer Notes - Clarkson, St. Lawrence

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 12, 2017) – The Vassar women's soccer team puts their nine-game unbeaten streak on the line when they travel for two critical league games this weekend. On Friday, the team plays at Clarkson at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday the Brewers visit St. Lawrence at 2:00 p.m.

A Look at the Brewers (7-2-3, 3-0-1 Liberty League)
  • Vassar is currently tied with RPI for second in the Liberty League, behind William Smith
  • Freshman Ashley Ferry is tied for third place in the Liberty League in goals scored (7) also currently ranks second in the league in points (20).
  • Freshman keeper Fiona Walsh was named the ECAC DIII North Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. She made an impressive 12 saves against No. 16 Stevens last Tuesday and recorded her fifth shutout of the season against Skidmore on Saturday to help the Brewers to a 3-0 win.
  • Juniors Rachel Chernet and Sara Seper continue to prove their value at midfield, as each notched a goal against Skidmore on Saturday.
  • Seniors Carolina Alvarez and Amanda McFarland continue to be strong leaders on either end of the field, with totals of 775 and 822 minutes of play time this season respectively.
  • The Brewers rank second in the league with a scoring margin of 1.75.
 
A Look at the Golden Knights (6-3-3, 2-1-1 Liberty League)
  • Clarkson is currently ranked fourth in the Liberty League behind William Smith, RPI and Vassar
  • Keeper Elyse Green has five shutouts on the season, tying her for first place in the Liberty League with Vassar keeper Fiona Walsh. She is also ranked third in the league for saves, with a total of 61 thus far.
  • Camryn Careccia is tied for fourth with in the league with 15 points, while teammate Madison Kather is locked into a four-way tie for fifth with 11. The two have combined for 11 goals and 24 shots on goal this season.
  • With seven goals on the season, Careccia is also tied with Ashley Ferry for third in the league in goals scored.
  • Freshman defender Ashley Abel has held a strong backline for the Golden Knights, her 1132 minutes of playtime this season are second only to goalkeeper Elyse Green's 1140.
  • Clarkson's offense has been very good at penetrating defenses this season, earning 56 corner kicks thus far.
 
A Look at the Saints (7-4-0, 2-2-0 Liberty League)
  • St. Lawrence is currently ranked fifth in the Liberty League, trailing William Smith, RPI, Vassar, and Clarkson
  • Emily Wade currently leads the Liberty League standings in total shots, with 39 on the season, 20 of which were shots on goal.
  • Kaleigh White has five assists so far this season, tying for third place in the Liberty League
  • Seniors Hannah Merriam and Katie Stames lead by example, with 4 goals apiece on the season.
  • Freshman Julia Mulhern has had a strong rookie campaign, notching her third goal of the season (and the Saints' only goal of the day) against RIT last week, tying her with Megan Gannon for second most goals on the team.
  • Sophomore keeper Samantha Allen has 43 saves and a save percentage of 0.811 in her 10 starts.
 
Against Clarkson All-Time: Vassar is 13-2-2 against Clarkson all-time since 2000. Last year's match up in Poughkeepsie saw the Brewers walk away with a 3-1 win.
 
Against St. Lawrence All-Time: Vassar is 8-10-1 against the St. Lawrence all-time since 1999, but have won their last three contests against the Saints. Last season, Vassar claimed a 4-0 win at home against the Saints.
