POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 10, 2017) – The Vassar men's soccer team continued their undefeated streak in the Liberty League against Skidmore this past Saturday. After meeting for the first time since the Liberty League Championship last year, the teams ended in a 1-1 tie. Working to keep their record clean of losses, the Brewers will face off against the Clarkson University Golden Knights on Friday, October 13
th and the Saints of St. Lawrence University on Saturday, October 14
th.

Last Time Out: Both the Brewers and the Thoroughbreds came out aggressive this past Saturday, with the teams earning eight yellow cards combined throughout the intense match. Neither team was able to score in the first half, yet both saw action up top with ten shots on goal between the two teams. In the middle of the second half, Skidmore was able to find the back of the net, but this did not stop the Brewers. Four minutes later,
Tyler Gilmore scored off of a free kick from
Tanner Sands, which was passed from
Jonathan Bow and
Mattie Mrlik. The teams then headed into a physical 20 minutes of overtime, but neither team was able to score again, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
A Look At The Brewers (6-3-2, 3-0-1 Liberty League)
- The Brewers continue their strong offensive presence, totaling 169 shot attempts and 63 corner kicks on the season thus far.
- Jose Novas, Hayden Van Brewer and Mattie Mrlik all have four goals for the Brewers so far this season, leading the offense.
- Novas and Van Brewer also lead the team in points (11) and in assists (3).
- The Brewers are second in the league in assists (18), revealing an unselfish team and a versatile roster of players who can contribute to the game, with 10 players contributing to the assist stat.
- Sophomore Mattie Mrlik and junior Tyler Gilmore have been racking up the shots on goal, with Mrlik attempting 43 and Gilmore 26.

A Look At The Saints (5-4-3, 3-0-2 Liberty League)
- The Saints currently lead the league in points (67), goals (23), and assists (21), making them a tough opponent for the Brewers.
- Brendan McNamee, the Saints leading goal scorer, is ranked third in the Liberty League for goals (5) and third in the league in shots (38).
- Tapshak Augustine, totaling four assists so far, is fourth in the league for assists.
- Ten players have scored for the Saints and 12 have assisted, which reveals a strong offensive line for the Saints and depth up top.
