Vassar Women's Basketball Notes — RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 16, 2017) — The Brewers of the Vassar College women's basketball team (8-8, 5-2 Liberty) look to extend their winning streak to four when they kickstart a three-game road trip on Tuesday, Jan. 17, playing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-9, 1-5 Liberty) for a 6 p.m. tilt.

Last Time Out: The Brewers have won five of their past six games. Last week, they defeated Bard College 101-31 on Tuesday, Clarkson University 64-61 on Friday and St. Lawrence University 58-40 on Saturday.
 
A Look At The Brewers (8-8):
  • The Brewers will ride a three-game winning streak into Troy, NY after winning all of their games last week. With the sweep, Vassar is third in the Liberty League standings behind William Smith College (11-3, 5-0) and Skidmore College (9-6, 6-1).
  • The last time the Brewers won three games in a row was in 2015-16 when they beat St. Lawrence, Mount Saint Mary College and William Smith from Jan. 30 to Feb. 5. The last time they strung together four straight wins was to conclude the 2014-15 season, beating Rochester Institute of Technology, William Smith, Bard and RPI from Feb. 13 to Feb. 20.
  • Vassar's 101-31 win over Bard on Tuesday set program records for points in a game (101), field goals in a game (45), assists in a game (31) and rebounds in a game (51).
  • The Brewers are averaging 7.9 more points than opponents, 67.1 to 59.2.
  • The Brewers are shooting 39.9 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from deep, while holding opponents to 36.5 and 18.0 percent, respectively.
  • As of Jan. 13, Vassar three-point field goal defense (19.0 at the time) was the lowest percentage in the country.
  • The Brewers are grabbing 6.5 more boards per game, outrebounding opponents 44.1 to 37.6.
  • The Brewers have also dished out nearly twice as many assists, 16.1 to 8.8 per game.
  • Two Brewers are averaging double-digit scoring in Ariella Rosenthal (14.8ppg) and Sophie Nick (12.1ppg)..
  • Vassar's two leading scorers also grab the most rebounds, accounting for 35 percent of Brewer boards. Nick averages 8.8, while Rosenthal averages 6.8.
  • Isa Peczuh, who averages 8.4 points per game, has drained the most three-pointers with 24 on a 38.7 shooting clip. The freshman has also registered the most steals with 25 on the season.
 
A Look At The Engineers (6-9):
  • RPI is eighth of nine teams in the Liberty League standings, behind RIT (9-5, 2-4) and ahead of Bard (0-13, 0-5).
  • The Engineers most recently snapped a five-game skid with a 66-64 win over RIT on Saturday. Elizabeth Eckardt scored the game-winning layup with 13 seconds remaining to give RPI its first win in conference play.
  • Through 15 games last season, the Engineers were 5-10 before finishing the year with an 8-17 overall and 4-12 Liberty League mark.
  • This season, RPI owns a negative scoring margin of -2.7, as it has been outscored by an average of 61.3 to 58.6.
  • The Engineers are shooting 34.3 percent from the floor and 25.5 percent from three, while opponents are shooting 36.7 and 27.1, respectively.
  • RPI has grabbed an average of 3.3 more boards per game, 42.4 to 39.1.
  • Sam Krumbhaar is the only Engineer to average double figures in the scoring column, chalking up 11.1 points per game. Eckhardt averages the second most points with 9.7, and Shaina Iton averages the third most with 8.4.
  • Krumbhaar has registered the most steals with 31 on the season.
  • Iton has grabbed a team-leading 10.5 rebounds per game and has blocked a team-best 31 shots.
  • Lauren Young has been the Engineers' primary facilitator, dishing out 4.0 assists per game to go along with her 6.6 points per game.
 
Against RPI All-Time: The Brewers are 14-26 against the Engineers all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1988; however, Vassar has taken eight of the past nine meetings, most recently topping RPI 88-74 on Feb. 21, 2016.
