POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 9, 2016) — Four Brewers found the back of the net, as the Vassar College women's lacrosse team fell to Skidmore College at home, 11-5.
With the loss, the Brewers fall to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 5-6 and 2-2 in the Liberty League.
Storm Sideleau scored two goals to lead Vassar, while
Fiona MacLeod,
Isabelle Goldstein and
Julia Trudell each tallied one.
Goalkeeper
Kristin Caolo took the loss with nine saves, while Megan Kolopsky earned the win with five.
Emma Harris and Natalie LaBeau led Skidmore with three goals apiece, while Cas Szwajkowski and Tyler Phillips both scored two. Marisa Caponi added one.
Free-position shots were the difference in the game, as the Thoroughbreds outscored the Brewers, 9-2, in those situations.
The Thoroughbreds opened scoring with a goal two minutes into the contest before MacLeod potted her fifth of the season, 1-1.
Skidmore used a 5-1 run, broken up by Sideleau, to take a 6-2 lead into the break. Trudell started the second half with her 16th goal of the season before the Thoroughbreds scored three of their own, 9-3.
But the Brewers didn't back down, using a late-game push to get as close as 9-5 with about seven minutes remaining. Sideleau secured her team-leading 22nd goal of the season before Goldstein notched her 16th, but that was the closest Vassar came to completing the comeback.
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Brewers, 27-18, and picked up more ground balls than them, 17-13.
The Brewers hope to bounce back on the road when they take on the Saints of St. Lawrence University on Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. Vassar is 3-1 on the road so far this season.
