A Look At The Brewers (10-3-2):
- Mattie Mrlik was tabbed the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season for his performances this past week. Mrlik picked up four points on two goals in Vassar's 3-0 shutout over No. 12 Rochester on Saturday.
- Vassar is currently fourth in Liberty League standings with 10 points behind Hobart College (16 points), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (16), St. Lawrence University (12) and Skidmore College (10), respectively.
- As of Oct. 19, Vassar ranks fifth in the East of the NCAA Regional Rankings. St. Lawrence, ranked fourth, is the only Liberty League team ahead of the Brewers.
- The Brewers have outshot opponents 241-160 overall and 109-62 in shots-on-goal. The team has posted 29 assists, leading to 33 goals.
- Within the Liberty League, the Brewers are first in assists (1.933 per game) and points (6.33 per game), and second in goals (2.200 per game).
- The Brewers have 13 players who have found the back of the net at least once this season, proving their offensive depth.
- Freshman Mattie Mrlik leads Vassar with 21 points (seven goals, seven assists), placing him first among league leaders in points and assists. Mrlik has six multi-point games under his belt so far this season, and has tallied at least a point in 10 of 15 games.
- Hayden Van Brewer is second in the conference behind Mattie Mrlik in assists with seven.
- Tyler Gilmore headed in his third game-winning shot of the season against No. 12 Rochester, making the defender first in the league for game-winning goals.
- Mattie Mrlik, Alex Gonzales (seven) and Jose Novas (six) are all in the top ten in the conference for goals scored this season.
- Goalkeeper Matt Marcelino has been solid in net for the Brewers, making 42 saves for an 8-3-2 record, including three shutouts. Fellow keeper Adam Warner has also been productive, making four saves for a 1-0-0 mark, which includes a clean sheet.
- The Brewer defense has been stifling, shutting out six teams so far in Mount Saint Mary College (Sept. 4), William Paterson University (Sept. 10), Elms College (Sept. 11), New Paltz (Sept. 14), Elmira College (Sept. 20), RIT (Oct. 14) and No. 12 Rochester (Oct. 22).
A Look At the Dutchmen (9-5-1):
- Union sits tied for sixth in the Liberty League standings with seven points, alongside Clarkson University and ahead of RIT (four points) and Bard College (three points).
- Union ripped through its 2016 non-conference schedule, posting a 7-2-0 record.
- The Dutchmen have struggled of late, having dropped three of their past four matches. The losing streak was broken up by a 2-0 win over Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences on Oct. 18.
- The Dutchmen are nearly on par with what they accomplished in 2015, a season wherein they finished 10-4-4 overall and 3-2-3 in conference play. Last year, they fell 2-1 to St. Lawrence in the first round of the Liberty League Championships.
- The Dutchmen have outshot opponents 256-141 overall and 106-58 in shots-on-goal. The team has posted 26 assists, leading to 34 total goals.
- Union has been able to capitalize on given opportunities, connecting on three of four penalty kick attempts.
- The Dutchmen and their opponents have generally played with consistency this season. Union has posted 17 goals in the first half and 17 in the second, while opponents have notched five in the first, five in the second, one in the first overtime and another in the second.
- Andrew Fontaine leads Union with 17 points on the season with five goals and seven assists.
- Freshman Salvador Lopez Jr. is fifth in the conference for shots attempted (51) and eighth in goals (five).
- Ethan Stauss has four assists, putting him second among Dutchmen and eighth in the league.
- Seventeen Union players have scored at least one goal this season, while 14 have slotted assists.
Against Union All-Time: Vassar is 10-15-4 against Union all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1988. Last year, the Brewers lost 1-0 to the Dutchmen, but previously bested them 1-0 in 2014.
Next Up: Following Wednesday's game, Vassar will travel to Annandale-On-Hudson for its final game of the regular season. The Brewers will play the Bard Raptors on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
