Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vassar Falls To Hobart In OT, 3-2

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 15, 2016) — The Vassar College men's soccer team fell 3-2, as Hobart College scored the game-winner off a penalty kick in overtime at Gordon Field on Saturday.

The Brewers got off to a speedy start, notching their first tally in the third minute. Tanner Sands chucked a pass from the right side into the box, where Alex Gonzales chipped the game's first goal over the keeper

Over the past three games, Gonzales has registered four goals — two of which were game-winners against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Oct. 8) and Rochester Institute of Technology (Oct. 14).

While the Brewers capitalized early, the Statesmen were able to finish late. In the 43rd minute, Joe Escamilla headed in Hobart's first goal from close range, following a corner kick from the left by Sam Farman.

Hobart opened second-half scoring with a goal in the 52nd minute. Nate Cary dribbled before striking into the far right corner from about seven yards out.

The Brewers were quick to bounce back, scoring six minutes later. Tyler Gilmore got a good look, but his shot was saved. Not giving up on the play, Jose Novas scored the second-chance goal, kicking straight back into the net

Neither team scored the remainder of the half, and overtime ensued. It looked like a second overtime was in order until Adrian Colmenares scored off a PK with 14 seconds remaining. His shot hit off the left post before finding the back of the net.

The Statesmen outshot the hosting Brewers 16-7 overall. Goalkeeper Matt Marcelino took the loss for Vassar (9-3-2, 3-2-1 Liberty) with three saves, while Alex Kaminer earned the win for Hobart (7-4-3, 4-1-1 Liberty) with four stops.

The Brewers return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 22, as they host the Yellowjackets of University of Rochester at Gordon Field. Prior to kickoff, which is timed for 2 p.m., five Brewers will be honored for Senior Day: Noah Bloch, Matt Fields, Stephen Jennings, John Lopes and Adam Warner
