What To Look ForThe Brewer men's swimming and diving team will finish their long and lengthy road schedule, one that has seen Vassar compete away from Kresge Pool in each of the last six meets. Vassar will be home for its Senior Day meet on Saturday afternoon, but first the Brewers will have to travel to take on the Red Hawks. These two teams have seen each other already this season, as MSU won the Union College Relays back in October, while Vassar finished fourth. Despite the spread, the Brewers have been swimming well lately, but will need a top-notch performance to upset the strong Montclair State squad.
A Look At The Brewers- The Brewers have dropped their last three dual meets, finishing sixth at the Liberty League Championships meet back in December.
- Sophomore
Jonah Strand (Woodstock, NY/Onteora) has been the leading swimmer of late for VC, as he finished second in the 100 breaststroke at Hamilton. He also won the 200 breaststroke, and finished third in the 200 IM.
- Junior
Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison) continues to shine in the butterfly events, as he earned the win in the 200 Fly against Hamilton and RIT. He swam a 1:59.77, while also winning the 100 butterfly in 53.96.
- The 400 free relay for VC has been swimming well, as
Ian LaBash (Studio City, CA/Cleveland),
Isaiah Hale (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Walker and
Greg Cristina (Suffield, CT/Suffield) has been a strong quartet.
- Diver
Marvin Corleto (Los Angeles, CA/Camino Nuevo) hadn't gone over 100 points in any dive before Trinity, but has now accomplished the feat twice in the last two meets, bested by his 119.65 at Hamilton.
- Freshman
Alex May earned fifth place in the 1000 free at Hamilton with a 10:41.61, as he has consistently been Vassar's best distance free swimmer.
- Last time out, the Brewers had two swimmers in the top six in the 50 free, as Cristina was fourth with a 22.92 and freshman
Lukas Harries (Raleigh, NC/Lee Academy) was sixth with a 23.61.
- Vassar will recognize two seniors on Saturday for Senior Day, as Hale and Cristina will be honored before the VC Sprint Invitational.
A Look At The Red Hawks- Montclair State had posted a three-meet winning streak in dual meets before falling to Rowan University 178-102 back on January 16.
- In MSU's last meet, freshman Charles Cobbertt won in both the 200 free and 100 free, posting times of 1:47.00 and 48.63, respectively.
- Nick Kalatatis earned a win against Rowan in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.08, while Kevin Henningsen has also been a strong swimmer in the fly events with a 2:04.63 against RU.
- The Red Hawks last swim meet, scheduled against Ramapo College last Saturday, was postponed due to Winter Storm Jonas.
- Back at the Union College Relays, MSU earned the 400 medley relay win, swimming a 3:39.11, more than four seconds better than anyone else.
- Corbertt has the NJAC's top time in the 200 free this year, as his 1:47.00 from Rowan set the mark.
- Kevin Clauss has the league's 10
th best time in the 200 breaststroke, as he swam a 2:17.16 back in October.
Up NextThe Brewers will host the VC Sprint Invitational at 1 p.m. in Kresge Pool in Walker Field House. Senior Day festivities will begin approximately 10 minutes prior to the meet.
