What To Look For
The Brewer defense has been stout so far this season, but this week Vassar will take on a Kean team that has scored 13 goals in three games, including posting five in their lone home game of the season last Tuesday in a 5-0 defeat of Utica College. The Brewers and Kean have a history of playing defensive battles, as the last two seasons the contest has finished 1-0 in favor of the home team. Watch for both teams to take advantage of their penalty corners, as both have shown the ability to make things happen off the set plays so far this year.

A Look At The Cougars (3-0)
Kean University has had a nice start to the season, earning a win to start the season last Tuesday over Utica, followed by a title at the Connie Harnum Classic, defeating Albright College 6-1 and Wilkes University 2-1 to earn the title. The Cougars were the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) "Dark Horse" preseason pick by the league coaches, finishing fourth in the league's preliminary poll. Kean senior goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo was named as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week Monday after stopping 20 shots and allowing only two goals over Kean's first three games. Kean currently boasts the NJAC's third-best offense with 4.33 goals per game. KU's plan seems to be to get out early on, as the Cougars have outscored opposition 8-0 in the first half, earning 25 first half corners to just the five from its opponents. In the second half, KU has been out-cornered 20-14 and allowed both of its scores this season.

Marissa Robinson currently paces the offense for Kean, as she has scored two goals to go with two assists. Robinson has converted the team's only penalty stroke while leading the team with 22 shots fired. Krista LaMaina has also netted four tallies for the Cougars, while Raykena Brown has scored on three of her five shots on goal. Teresa Carr paces the team with three assists. So far, DiCarlo has played all 210 minutes in the cage for the Cougars, allowing just two scores and making 20 saves, posting one shutout thus far.

Against Kean All-Time
The Brewers are 4-5 all-time against Kean University, winning two of the last three contests with their opponents from the Garden State. Last season, Vassar earned a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over the Cougars on Weinberg Field, as Enya Cunningham scored a penalty stroke in the extra period.

Wow Wiebe!
Brewer senior captain Lauren Wiebe (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker) was named Betty Richey Tournament MVP this weekend for the second straight year, and she now sits with 49 career points, which ties for fourth all-time at Vassar with 2014 grad Tina Caso.

Brick Wall Amico
Freshman keeper Paige Amico (Carlsbad, CA/La Costa Canyon) wasted no time being recognized by the Liberty League, as she earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week in her first week on the job as the VC keeper. Amico became the first Vassar goaltender to earn Defensive Player of the Week since Maggie Brelis earned the award October 14, 2013.

Off To A Good Start
For the second consecutive season, the Brewers have started their campaign 3-0. Last year, Vassar posted its best start to a season in program history, starting out 5-0.

Storm Warning
Sophomore Storm Sideleau (Contoocook, NH/Kimball Union Academy) has been a big spark this season for VC, as she has netted the Brewer's first goal in two of the three contests. Saturday against William Paterson, she scored with just over eight minutes to play to knot the game at one.

Balance Is the Key
The Brewers come into the week with five players on their roster posting two goals apiece, while freshman Alyssa More (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) also posting a tally.

Cornering The Opposition
Vassar College has held a decided advantage in penalty corners this season, chalking up 32 on the year to just the 13 from its three opponents thus far.

Game Saver
Junior defender Sophie Arnold (Merion, PA/Lower Marion) had a game-saving play against William Paterson Saturday, saving a ball on the goal line with the game tied at one with just over five minutes to play in regulation, setting up Vassar's game-winner minutes later.

Youse In The House
Freshman defender Molly Youse (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) has started all three games thus far, becoming the lynchpin in the back as she earned Betty Richey All-Tournament Team for her play this weekend.

Be Like Mike
Head coach Michael Warari currently has 25 career wins, which is just two shy of second all-time at Vassar, trailing only Pat Fabozzi (27) and Judy Finerghty (77) in the victory column.

Up Next
Vassar College will host The College at Brockport this Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m. on Weinberg Field in non-conference play.
