Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Palmer Goal Secures Shutout vs. New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY (September 19, 2015) - Senior Jordan Palmer (Woodland Hills, CA/Agoura) netted the game's only goal in the closing minutes, as Vassar earned a 1-0 victory over SUNY-New Paltz Saturday afternoon. It was a defensive struggle in the game at Alumni Field, with both teams combining for just seven shots in the contest. VC improves to 3-2-2 with the victory, while the Hawks suffer their first loss of the year to drop to 4-1.

The Vassar defense was stellar in the victory, allowing a season-low two shots to New Paltz. Senior Sebastein Lasseur (Cornwall, CT/Housatonic Vly Regional) didn't have to make a save in goal to secure the third shutout of the year for VC. Neither side could find the net in first half with just three total shots taken, as the teams headed into the break locked at zero.

Jordan Palmer finally broke the tie in the 86th minute, launching a shot from the top of the box and into the goal to give the Brewers the 1-0 advantage. New Paltz was unable to respond as the buzzer signaled at the end of regulation.

Vassar will play its final non-conference game of the regular season this Wednesday, September 23 when the team hosts Mt. St. Mary (NY) on Gordon Field. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 pm.
