Game Coverage: (Live Stats)

Last Time Out: Despite two first half goals from senior Cosmo Veneziale (Garden City, NY/Garden City) and twice holding a lead, Vassar came up short to the Stevens Institute of Technology 4-2 on September 16.

A Look at the Hawks: New Paltz has gotten off to a solid start in 2015, winning its first four games by a combined margin of 12-4. It will be New Paltz's fifth consecutive home game when the team hosts Vassar on Saturday, before the Hawks spend three straight games on the road. The Hawks look primed to improve on their 5-11-2 record from a season ago, needing just one more victory to match their 2014 win total.

New Paltz opened the year with a double OT victory over VC's opponent next week, Mount Saint Mary (NY). The Hawks then rattled off three more victories vs. Lehman College (3-0), John Jay College (4-3) and Old Westbury (4-1). Junior Tyler Lundgren currently leads New Paltz in scoring, recording four goals and an assist for nine points on the year. Sophomore goalkeeper John Guzzo has started in all four games for the Hawks, posting 10 saves and a 0.96 GAA.

Against New Paltz All-Time: Vassar holds a 15-9-2 record all-time against New Paltz, and has won the past four meetings between the schools. The Brewers earned a 1-0 shutout victory in last year's game, getting a goal from now-junior Noah Bloch (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) in the first half.

League Play Around the Corner: Vassar has just two more games (including New Paltz) before Liberty League competition, which will start with a game vs. current national No. 8 St. Lawrence University on October 2. Here's a look at the current Liberty League Standings.

Past Opponents:  The combined record of Vassar's past opponents so far this season is 19-14-3. Four of the teams VC has played hold winning records.

Warner Shines: Junior goalkeeper Adam Warner (Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) turned in one of his finest performances as a Brewer against Oneonta, making seven saves while allowing just a penalty kick goal to the then-No. 3 team in the country. Warner was tested all game from the Red Dragons, and made several tough saves including an outstretched punch-out from a last second header shot.

Two Ties: Vassar has already matched its total for draws from 2014, tying Salve Regina (2-2) and SUNY-Oneonta (1-1) through the first few weeks of the season. Vassar's most ties ever in a season came in 2015, when the team finished with five draws.

Bounce Back: Vassar is 6-1-3 over the past two seasons in games directly following a loss.

Winning the First: Vassar has now won its fourth consecutive season opening game, and has not lost in season opener since the 2001 season. Since 2005, Vassar has shutout six opponents in its first game of the year.

Spreading the Wealth: Seven different Brewers have recorded a goal so far this this season, including six players who have notched multiple goals. Senior Tom Wiechert (San Clemente, CA/San Clemente) leads the way with four.

Plus-Three: Last season, no single player scored more than three goals for the Brewers. Wiechert and senior Jordan Palmer (Woodland Hills, CA/Agoura) have already amassed at least three scores each in six games in 2015, while Cosmo Veneziale, Nick Hess, sophomore Jose Novas (Doral, FL/Gulliver Preparatory) and freshman Tyler Gilmore (Coronado, CA/Coronado) have all tallied two goals so far in 2015.

Moving Up the Record Books: Senior Tom Wiechert moved into a tie for third all-time with Aldis Butler ('05) in career goals at Vassar after recording the 29th of his career vs. Manhattanville. Wiechert is also fourth in career points, now with 66 in the burgundy and gray. Jordan Palmer made his debut inside the top-10 in all-time assists, notching the 14th and 15th of his career vs. Roger Williams. His 15 assists moves him into a tie for eighth all-time with Alex Freund ('10) and current assistant coach Ross Macklin ('12).

Starters x 6: Six Brewers have started in all six games for Vassar this season including Tom Wiechert, Jordan Palmer, Nick Hess (Troy, NY/Averill Park), Gavin Jennings (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington), Hayden Van Brewer (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and Ben Glasner (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O Dickerson).

Strive for Five: Vassar has now scored five goals in two separate games this season, and has totaled 16 total scores on the year. The last time VC scored five goals in two games in a season was 2012, when the Brewers earned a 5-0 victory over John Jay and a 6-0 decision vs. Bard College.

Scoring Surge to Start: Vassar's 12 goals in its first three games is the most by a Brewer team since the 2003 season, when VC tallied 17 goals in its opening three games. The Brewers downed Medgar Evers 5-1 in its season opener, then went on to top No. 24 Kings Point 2-0 and Mt. St. Mary (NY) 10-0.

Next Up: Vassar will have one final non-conference contest this season on Wednesday, September 23 when the team hosts Mt. St. Mary (NY) at Gordon Field. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 pm.
