BRONX, NY (April 11, 2015) – New York University swept doubles, then won five of six singles matches to clinch a 8-1 head-to-head victory over Vassar Saturday evening. The Violets improve to 2-4 on the season in duals with the win, while VC now stands at 6-8.
Sophomore Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shoecrest Prep School) picked up the lone victory for Vassar on the day, beating junior Sidd Thangirala at No. 1 singles. Litsky won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to pick up his 12th victory on the year.
Thangirala and teammate Ian Combemale were victorious at No. 1 doubles, topping Litsky and junior Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) in a close one 8-6. Billy Smithline and Sammy Aronson got the win at No. 2 over juniors Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire) and Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) 8-1. CJ Leong and Matt DeMichiel sealed the sweep for the Violets, edging sophomores Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School) and Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/ Colegio American De Quito) 8-6.
Luckmann played a close match at No. 6 singles, dropping the first set to Karan Goyal 6-4 before rallying in the second to win 6-4. Goyal came out ahead in the tiebreak, winning 10-6 to clinch the victory.
The Brewers will wrap up the regular season with four consecutive Liberty League matches, first facing RPI on Saturday, April 18 at 1 pm.
