THOUSAND OAKS, CA (March 17, 2015) – No. 24 California Lutheran swept doubles, and earned three singles victories to clinch a 6-3 team win over Vassar Saturday afternoon. The Kingsmen improve to 5-6 on the season with the win, while Vassar drops to 4-7.
The Brewers had their best showing of the day at singles, earning three victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5. Junior Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) earned his first singles win of the team's spring trip, downing Fergus Scott 6-2, 6-3. Junior Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) also claimed his first win of the week, defeating Oliver Thorton at No. 4 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio American de Quito) earned the final victory for VC on the day, winning his third consecutive singles match over Jesse Knight 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
Vassar came up just short at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, as both teams fell 8-6. Daniel Cooper and sophomore Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/ Shorecrest Prep. School) battled to an 8-6 decision with Moises Cardenas and Jesse Knight, while juniors Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire) and Evan Udine were bested by Fergus Scott and Andrew Slater by an identical score.
The Brewers will return to the court tomorrow to face No. 39 Whittier College at 1:00 pm in Whittier, CA.
