ORANGE, CA (March 16, 2015) – No. 40 Chapman University secured a 8-1 victory over the Vassar men's tennis team Monday afternoon in the team's first match of its spring break trip in Southern California. The Panthers swept the doubles matches, and earned five of six wins at singles to move to 5-3 on the season in duals. Vassar drops to 4-6 on the year with the loss.

Sophomore Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep. School) and senior Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) came close at No. 1 doubles, but eventually fell 8-6 to Justin Thompson and Hunter Morris. Juniors Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) and Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) dropped an 8-3 decision to Brett Buford and Charlie Werman at No. 2 while Justin P. Thompson and Sam Mitteldorf gave the Panthers a 3-0 edge with an 8-4 win vs. sophomores Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecudor/Colegio American de Quito) and Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School) in the No. 3 match.

Laso picked up the lone victory for VC on the day with a three set victory over Morris in the No. 5 match. He won the first set 7-5, before Morris was able to even the match with a 7-6 victory in the second set. Laso came through in the super tiebreak, clinching his sixth win of the year with a 10-6 set three victory.

Udine played a close No. 4 match against Werman going three sets, but ultimately fell 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.

The Brewers will be back in action tomorrow at 2 pm (PT) to face No. 24 California Lutheran.
