Box Score TROY, NY (February 3, 2015) – The Vassar College women's basketball team traveled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Tuesday evening for a Liberty League matchup, but the Brewers were outlasted by RPI 58-48 in action from the East Campus Arena. The contest was a makeup of the game originally scheduled for January 27, but snow last weekend forced the postponement.
The Brewers fell behind early 5-0 to the Engineers, who led by as much as eight points with 12:23 to play in the opening stanza at 12-4 after a three-pointer from Amanda Lynch. VC started to chip away, going on a 6-0 mini-run, capped by a lay-up at 9:19 by junior center

Vassar took its first lead of the evening at 6:20 to play in the half on a
Kim Romanoff (Durham, CT/Coginchaug Regional) 12-foot jumper from the right wing, but RPI regained an edge by scoring the next five points of the period, three coming from the free throw line on Ashley Clough makes. The Brewers made the final two buckets of the first half to tie the game at 18 going into the break.
Out of the halftime intermission, the Brewers took their biggest lead of the game up to that point at three after a layup by
Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) to make the score 27-24. The Engineers responded with a 14-3 to take a seven-point lead at 38-31 at 10:04 to play in regulation.
RPI grew the advantage up to 12 points, a lead it would hold onto for the remainder of the game. The Brewers had a furious rally over the last minute, pulling to within four with 32 seconds to play, but the Engineers were able to ice the game from the line.
Drakeley finished with a team-best 16 points for the Brewers, marking the 18
th game of the season the junior guard has posted double-figures. Drakeley also led the squad with nine rebounds, five coming on the offensive end.
Rosenthal posted 10 points for the Brewers, but shot just 4-of-17 from the floor, grabbing eight rebounds as well. All eight Vassar players that dressed scored, including getting seven points from junior guard
Alex Moon (Mission Hills, CA/Bishop Alemany) on her 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. The Brewers shot 18-of-64 (28.1 percent) from the field, but connected on 84.6 percent (11-13) from the charity stripe.
RPI was paced by the game-high of 21 points from Lynch, while Clough contributed 15 points as well. Freshman center Shaina Iton added 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, corralling a game-best 16 rebounds. Rensselaer won the rebounding battle, 47-42, and also forced the Brewers into 21 turnovers.
The Brewers head north to take on Clarkson University Friday evening at 6 p.m. in more Liberty League play.
