Brewers Cruise Past Skidmore 171-98

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 7, 2015) – Vassar was powered by nine event victories, including another record-setting performance from freshman diver Mia Moraru, as the Brewers topped Skidmore College 171-98 in dual meet action Saturday afternoon. The Brewers (3-0) have now won all three of their dual meets this season, while Skidmore drops to 1-2.

"Today was another good performance for us against Liberty League opposition," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "It's great to see so many strong individual efforts, and we're happy to see this group build in the right direction."

Moraru continues to dive into uncharted waters for the Vassar diving program, as she broke her own school record in the 3-meter, six dive event with a combined score of 251.25. The mark smashes her record of 245.24 set just seven days ago, and she also had her best mark of the season in the 1-meter event, taking first with a combined score of 230.70. Sophomore Nora Kyrkiebo also broke the previous 3-meter, six dive record at the meet, scoring a career-best 245.32 to finish second in the event.

Junior Julia Cunningham had a season-best 2:07.91 to win the 200 butterfly, less than four tenths of a second off a NCAA "B" Cut mark (2:07.58). Cunningham picked up another victory in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:30.99; the fastest of any VC swimmer this season. She also posted the top time in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:16.52.

Freshman Sammy Stone took first in the 200 free ( 1:58.35), the fastest of any Brewer this season. She also placed first in the 500 free, finishing in 5:16.12. Fellow freshman Kael Ragnini was the first to touch the wall in the 1000 free, taking the top spot with a mark of 11:11.08.

Senior Mile Nelson had the best time of any Brewer this season in the 100 back (1:04.72) finishing just four hundredths of a second off the leader.

Vassar had some strong performances in the 50 freestyle, led by a team-best 27.19 from freshman Meg Harrington. Fellow Freshman Akili Walker (27.96) and Margaret Reisert (32.60) took 3-4 in the event as VC secured 14 total points from the race.

Freshman Hayley Schultz had the top time in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:05.87. VC had the top team in the 200 medley relay, as Nelson, Schultz, Cunningham and Stone combined to go 1:57.59.

The Vassar swimming and diving teams will return to meet action next Saturday, November 14 when the teams travel to swim vs. the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
