TROY, NY (November 14, 2015) – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute used 11 event victories to pick up a 194.5-100.5 dual meet win over Vassar Saturday afternoon. The Brewers now stand at 2-2 on the season in duals, while RPI improves to 3-0 in head-to-head meets.
"Today was a good measure to see how we stack up against very tough competition," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "We're back here in three weeks for the Liberty League Championships, so it was great for us to get a feel for where we'll be competing. We will be building our races and events until then."
Anthony Walker had a strong race in the 200 butterfly, finishing first with a time of 2:01.05 to win the event. Walker also took home a victory in the 100 fly, outpacing the field with a time of 54.02. Sophomore Luke Morrison dropped his season-best times in both races, taking second (2:01.05) and fourth (57.94) respectively.
Sophomore Jonah Strand picked a victory day in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.28), just edging the next best finisher by two tenths of a second. Strand also notched a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.42.
Freshman Alex May was a winner in the 1000 free, topping the field with a time of 10:45.97. Junior Chris Cerutti had a season-best time in the 200 back, taking third with a mark of 2:05.42.
Vassar will be back in action for its final home meet of the semester on Saturday. November 21 when the team hosts New York University at Kresge Pool.
