What to Look ForThe Brewers have been full of surprises so far this season - one being their upset against Union College, their first victory against UC in three years. While Stevens trumped Vassar 3-0 for the past two years running, their last "W" against the Ducks being in 2012, VC is hoping to prove themselves with a victory this week.
A Look at the Ducks (11-8 Overall, 3-0 Empire 8)The Ducks have had a pretty strong season and are sitting on a winning record thus far. They've seen 19 contests to date, including the Stevens Invitational where they posted a 2-0 record, the Greyhound Invitational where they went 3-1, the Ducks Classic where they went 2-2, and the Asics Invitational where they dropped 0-4. At present, the Ducks are hitting .179 and have buried 752 kills on the season.
The Ducks' sophomore libero, Sydni Horner, recently became the ninth player in Stevens' history to post 1000 digs - her final was recorded against Western Connecticut State University. In the same match, the team hit .307 overall and posted nine aces.
Junior hitter Mary Tobin also broke school history, reaching her 1,000th career kill playing Utica College earlier in October. Tobin is the fifth player in Stevens volleyball history to reach this landmark.
Against Stevens All-TimeThe Brewers hold a 6-23 all-time record against Stevens, and have lost the last two contests with 0-3 sweeps. This the first time the Ducks and Brewers are matching up this season.
How Do Like Them Apples?Vassar will be hosting its first Faculty/Staff Recognition Night in program history before Wednesday's game. Many players have invited professors of personal importance to attend the match and be recognized with team gifts and apples before the competition begins.
Miller The KillerJunior captain
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) has led the Brewers in blocking totals (32 overall, .57 per set) and service this season. She also sits No. 2 for hitting percentage (resting at 148 overall and .116 percentage wise) and for digs (117 on the season and 2.09 digs per set).
Goliath GallagherFreshman
Devan Gallagher (San Fransisco, CA/Urban School of San Fransico) has been enjoying a break out first season - pulling ahead in season kills and currently sitting No. 1 for the Brewers with 2.77 kills per set and 155 balls buried overall.
Hallum Of FameSenior
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) is currently making waves in Vassar record books - sitting No. 3 for her .902 reception percentage, No. 2 for serve percentage with .908, No. 2 for service attempts with 838, No. 1 for digs per set with 4.76, and No. 2 for career digs with 1524.
Third Time's The CharmThe Brewer' last seven matches have been sweeps - either a 3-0 win or a 0-3 loss. In fact, only five of their total 17 contests have been played to four sets and the Brewers have yet to see a match go to five.
Up NextThe Brewers will play next at home again, this time in the Athletics and Fitness Center, hosting a day of Liberty League competition where they will see Bard College at 4:00 p.m. and Skidmore College at 8:00 p.m. both on October 16.
