Bard Upends VC, 2-1

ANNANDALE –ON-HUDSON, NY (October 29, 2015) – Bard College netted a goal in each half, as the Raptors secured a 2-1 victory over Vassar Thursday evening. The Brewers managed a goal in the second period, but it wasn't enough as the team moves to 8-6-2 on the year and 2-3-2 in the Liberty League. Bard Improves to 8-8-1 (2-6-1 LL).

After the teams remained scoreless for a majority of the first half, Bard put away a goal right before the buzzer to take a 1-0 lead. Dylan McDonald converted a free kick from the far side into the near post in the 44th minute, and the Brewers found themselves trailing the Raptors for the second straight meeting heading into the break.

The hosts took a 2-0 advantage in the 60th minute, getting a goal from Avalon Qian. She made it through the Vassar defense on a breakaway, then hit a long shot into the far post to put the Brewers behind two.

Vassar answered back in the 74th minute, after senior Lucy Brainerd (Littleton, CO/Heritage) notched her fourth goal of the season. Freshman Rebecca Andrews (Los Altos, CA/Los Altos) connected with Brainerd on a short pass, as she split the defense to buried her shot to pull the Brewers within one.

The Brewers pushed to the very end, notching the final three shots of the game at Ferrari Field. Vassar could not find the equalizer, as the Brewers dropped their first-ever game to the Raptors.

VC will now need to win its final regular season game of the season to qualify for the Liberty League playoffs. The Brewers host the Dutchwomen Saturday, October 31 at 1:30 pm on Gordon Field. The squad will honor its four graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony for senior day.
