Late 2OT Goal Dooms Brewers vs. Union

SCHENECTADY, NY (October 29, 2015) – Senior Jason Miller netted the game's only goal in double overtime, as Union College defeated Vassar 1-0 Thursday evening. The loss effectively eliminates the Brewers from Liberty League playoff contention, as the squad's best possible finish is now sixth place. VC moves to 7-6-2 and 3-4 in the Liberty League with the defeat, while Union improves to 10-2-4 (3-1-3 LL).

The teams remained knotted at zero at the end of regulation, forcing Vassar into its third overtime contest of the season. After neither side found the net in the first OT period, Union finally broke through in the 106th minute on Miller's game-winner.

Junior Andrew Fontaine's initial shot was deflected, before the Miller collected the rebound and scored to push his team to victory. The Dutchmen finished with a 15-13 advantage in shots.

Neither squad could convert a scoring chance in the first half, with Vassar holding a 7-6 edge in shots. Union goalkeeper John Weitzman turned away all seven Brewer attempts at goal to keep VC scoreless at the end of the first period.

The Brewers will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 31 at home against Bard College at 11:00 am. The Brewers will honor the team's nine graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony.
