POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 21, 2015) - The Vassar men's swim team kicked off its 2015-16 season Wednesday evening with a 135-64 dual meet victory over Bard College. The squad claimed seven individual event victories, while several individuals posted quality marks in their first meet of the year at Kresge Pool. Vassar moves to 1-0 with the team victory, while Bard drops to 0-1.

Freshman Ian LaBash posted two individual victories in his first collegiate meet, winning both the 200 (1:55.67) and 500 (5:26.78) freestyle events. Fellow freshman Alexander May took second in the 200 (2:00.20).

Junior Walter Gabriel had the top time in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.86), while also finishing second in the 500 free (5:38.60).

The Brewers occupied the first three spots in the 200 yard IM, with Anthony Walker (2:04.88), Chris Cerutti (2:13.21) and Luke Morrison (2:14.74) finishing 1-2-3. Walker's finish was just five tenths of a second away from his career best (2:04.37). Â

Connor Martin and Marvin Corleto made their collegiate debuts in the diving well, finishing 1-2 with scores of 99.52 and 65.85 (respectively) in the 1-meter six dive event. Â

VC went 1-2-3 in the 100 yard butterfly, as sophomore Jonah Strand (55.21), senior Greg Cristina (57.00) and junior Ian Quinn (59.25) swam the top three times. Walker (50.44), freshman Lukas Harries (54.23) and freshman Michael Colletta (54.44) again swept the top three places for Vassar in the 100 freestyle. Â
Cerutti, Strand, Walker and Cristina were victorious in the 200 yard medley relay, finishing in 1:42.51 to top the field. The time was nearly four seconds faster than the top time Vassar posted last season in its season opener vs. Bard on October 29, 2014.

The Brewers will return to meet action this Saturday, October 24 when the team travels to Schenectady, NY to compete in the Union College Relays.
