ROCHESTER, NY (October 17, 2015) – Rochester Institute of Technology freshman Gene Sicoli scored the game's only goal on first half penalty kick, as RIT secured a 1-0 win over Vassar Saturday afternoon. The Brewers move to 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-0 in the Liberty League, while RIT improves to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
VC finished with 11 shots to RIT's 14 while the Tigers held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Senior Sebastien Lasseur (Cornwall, CT/Housatonic Vly Regional) finished with a game-high six saves, while RIT keeper Peter Cinibulk notched four stops.
A penalty kick awarded in the 30th minute proved to be critical in the game at Tiger Stadium. Sicoli stepped up to take the shot for the Tigers, and converted to score his ninth goal of the season. The Brewers managed to outshoot the hosts 8-6 in the opening period, but could not find the net as the team trailed 1-0 into the break.
Vassar will return to game action on Saturday, October 24 on the road against the Rensslaer Polytechnic Institute. Kickoff in Troy, NY is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
