No. 10 Skidmore Tops Field Hockey Saturday

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (October 17, 2015) - Skidmore College senior forward Dani DeGregory chalked up four goals Saturday for the host Thoroughbreds, as the Vassar College field hockey team dropped a 10-2 decision on the road in Liberty League action from Warner Park.

Skidmore (10-3, 4-0 Liberty League), ranked No. 10 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Top 20 poll, wasted no time scoring on its first shot of the game at 2:54 on a goal from Jenn Hanks.

VC ended a four-goal, first-half spurt by the host Thoroughbreds at 19:10 of the contest, as senior Lauren Wiebe (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker) potted an unassisted tally for her sixth of the season. Wiebe picked up a loose ball and deposited it inside the left post for the 28th goal of her Vassar career.

After halftime, Skidmore continued to add onto its advantage, though Wiebe struck again in the second half on a shot from the end line off the far post and in. Wiebe is now just one goal behind Ebony Boulware for second-place on the all-time goals list after her pair of strikes on Saturday.

DeGregory finished with 10 points on the day for the Thoroughbreds, adding two assists, while Hanks chalked up two scores and an assist as well for Skidmore. Krista Lamoreaux had a game-best three assists as well for SC, and Grace Florsheim also tallied twice in the win for the defending Liberty League champions. Skidmore has now won 12 straight at home and has not lost a regular season Liberty League home game since 2009.

The Brewers were outshot 21-4 on the day, while Skidmore held a 13-1 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Paige Amico (Carlsbad, CA/La Costa Canyon) made four saves in net for the Brewers.

Vassar College will return to the field Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Union College for another pivotal Liberty League contest in Schenectady, NY.
