What to Look For: Vassar is going for its fourth straight win on Wednesday, and will need another solid team effort to come away with the victory. The Brewers surrendered its first goals of the season over the past week, so the defense will be re-focused on another shutout performance.
Last Time Out: Vassar enters Wednesday's contest 4-0-1 after picking up a pair of wins over Elms College and Farmingdale State at the 2014 Vassar Invitational.
A Look at Manhattanville: Manhattanville College enters Wednesday's game 2-1, after dropping a weekend contest on September 7 against Carthage 2-3. The 2013 Manhattanville squad featured 15 freshmen and 17 total newcomers, finishing with a 5-10-2 record and a 2-4-1 record in the Freedom Conference. This year's Valiant squad contains more of a balance, featuring nine upperclassmen, and seven first-year players. Senior
Michael Alvarez and sophomore
Dan Lorandini have been the top performers for the Valiants, as the pair have recorded a goal and two assists each in the early goings of the season.
Against Manhattanville All-Time: The Brewers are 16-6 all-time vs. Manhattanville, and have won three out of the last five contests between the two sides. The teams have played into overtime twice in the past three meetings, including last year when the Brewers earned a 3-2 OT victory on a goal from junior
Nick Hess (Troy, NY/Averill Park) in the 106
th minute.
Weekend Wonder:  Senior Zach Nasipak (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after his MVP performance at the Vassar Invite. Nasipak was outstanding for the Brewers last week, headlining a backline that allowed only 15 shots over three games. The senior captain also notched his first goal of the season on a brilliant head ball in Vassar's 5-1 win over Farmingdale State.
Get Ahead, Stay Ahead: Vassar has yet to trail in a game this year, and was only unsuccessful in scoring in a 0-0 tie against Mt. St. Mary. VC has won all four of its matchups by at least two goals.
Hot Shots: Vassar has been all over opponents on the offensive end this season, out-shooting teams 118-29 in five games.
Winner-Winner: Vassar has won four games this season, with a different player scoring the game-winner in each of them. Senior
Justin Mitchell (Layton, UT/Northridge), sophomore
Andreas Freund (San Francisco, CA/Marin Acad.), senior
Andre Cousineau (Altadena, CA/Eagle Rock) and freshman
Noah Snider (Laramie, WY/Laramie).
Young Guns: This year's Vassar squad features only four seniors, making way for a large group of underclassmen to have an immediate impact. Freshmen defenders
Tanner Sands (Draper, UT/Juan Diego) and
Hayden Van Brewer (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) have started in all five games so far for the Brewers, while freshman
Alex Gonzales (Aliso Viejo, CA/Mater Dei) and
Andreas Freund have combined to make seven starts in ten games.
El-Capitans: A trio of seniors including
Justin Mitchell,
Zach Nasipak and
Tom Wiechert (Dana Point, CA/San Clemente) will serve as the team captains this year.
